Upcoming Release: Kindred

By Jaki McCarrick

Evelyn Hartnett lives in a run-down estate with her drug-dealing partner, Joe, in an Irish border town. The only thing that keeps her from falling apart is the hope that she will one day meet her long-lost brother, Eoin, and that together they will carry out the promise they made as children: to avenge their father’s death (at the hands of their mother, Statia).

Kindred is a modern (and very loose) adaptation of Euripides’ Electra - set on the Irish border. The play explores the collapse of idealism and increase of criminal (drug) activity within the extremes of the Republican movement in Ireland. Kindred was shortlisted for the 2011 BBC International Radio Playwriting Competition.
