Twenty year old Helen Monks is a writer from Birmingham, currently studying English and Theatre Studies at The University of Sheffield. When she was 13 she became the first Young Poet Laureate of Birmingham.
Since then she has performed her poetry alongside Benjamin Zephaniah, was patron of the Wolds Words Festival in Lincolnshire, and has toured as a guest poet with the London Mozart Players.
When she was 15 her stage play, 'Piano Man', was performed at the Birmingham Rep as part of their Transmissions festival, and her radio-play, 'One Day', was produced at BBC Birmingham after she won the radio writing competition 'RadioOnline'.
Her new play, 'PussyFooting' will have its world debut this year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013, in association with the University of Sheffield School of English.
She is very excited to have her radio-play, 'The Chicken Salad of a Troubled Mind' produced by The Wireless Theatre Company, which was the winner of our first Young Writer's Competition in 2012.
