Cherry Cookson

Cherry Cookson worked for over 30 years as a staff Senior Radio Drama Producer in the BBC, winning many national and international awards for her work, and on behalf of her writers. She is currently a freelance independent Radio Drama producer, director and teacher.

Cherry has taught both acting and creative writing at a number of universities, and since leaving the BBC has returned to produce a number of plays for BBC Radio 4 and has a play commissioned for BBC Radio 3 for the Olympics.  She has produced several unabridged audio books, and is an experienced script editor. She has coached actors and taught Radio Acting and Creative Writing to second year students and post-graduates at two leading Drama Schools, and is about to start work teaching on the radio course at the Drama Studio. She served as guest lecturer on the MA Screenwriting Course at Aberystwyth University.

Alongside her work as a producer she writes critical reports on radio plays for the Literary Consultancy Agency, has written numerous pieces of journalism as well as script editing many plays and prose.
