WINDOVER

BBC Director

Windover

Did You Know?

Cherry Cookson worked as a director for BBC Radio for over thirty years.

She now runs Acting For Radio workshops - details HERE.

A ghost story set on the wild Atlantic coast of North Devon, told through the eyes of Jenny, a girl of nearly nineteen, whose recently deceased grandmother, Mary, has bequeathed her ‘Windover,’ the cottage where she is staying with her father and his girlfriend during the summer vacation.

Before long Jenny starts to be troubled by visions of two teenage girls, and learns, from a photograph taken in 1934, that these girls are her grandmother, Mary and her friend Cathy. As the days go by and Jenny  becomes increasingly disturbed by the visions, she befriends Stephen, a neighbouring farmer and tries to enlist his help in making sense of what’s happening to her. Stephen, however, is evasive and little by little Jenny finds herself drawn into the tragic events that occurred nearly eighty years earlier.

BLOOD AND STONE

Based on a true story!

Blood and Stone

Listen with headphones for the full 3D experience

Blood and Stone

Based on the true story of Countess Elizabeth Bathory, perhaps one of the greatest mass murderers of all time. She was a woman who tortured and killed over 600 young women for their blood.

Too noble to be executed, in 1610 the 'Bloody Lady of Cachtice' was bricked up in a set of rooms in her own castle in Slovakia. Why then should the young and beautiful Katya be at the castle door attracting the close attention of the gaoler and wanting a job looking after Countess? Is it revenge or some more ghostly visit from Bathory's past? And if she should help her escape....

Listen through head phones and experience the ultra vivid world the 3D Audio recording technique creates inside your mind.

THE PASSENGER & THE RIVER

A binaural recording

LISTENING TIP:

For best sound, listen to this binarual recording through headphones!

The Passenger & The River

Here are two stories – one of menace and one of haunting. On a deserted road in the New Forest, a couple come across a man lying, apparently injured, in the road. They carry him to their car - but on the way to hospital, the driver hears knife blades clashing behind his head and things are not as they might have seemed.

The second story takes us down to a riverbank; a bereaved lover from a boat accident, the nightmares, the footsteps that seem to come from the water itself…. This is a BINAURAL recording from 3D Horrorfi and must be listened to with headphones for the full effect. We suggest listening alone.... in the dark....! Not suitable for children under 16.

The story of Lohengrin is a medieval Arthurian legend from Germany, it was famously turned into an opera by Wagner. A Binaural Recording

This is a BINAURAL recording and must be listened to with headphones for the full effect. We suggest listening alone.... in the dark....!

The Cask of Amontillado is Edgar Allan Poe’s short but enigmatic masterpiece. Set in an unnamed Italian City we hear the story of how Montresor lures Fortunato through the catacombs into the Montresor family vault and there chains him up and bricks him in for eternity.

Why he does it we will never know, but he does so with a casual savagery that is truly chilling.

"Cask' was recorded on location in ancient vaults. Every footstep and cough, every brick and every echo are captured and you will never forget hearing the final, faraway declamation: 'In pace requiescat!'
